Wren and Raul met on July 3rd, 2022, at the largest anime convention in North America: Anime Expo. In a stroke of fate, they were coincidentally dressed as rival characters from the anime series Attack on Titan—Raul as the Attack Titan and Wren as the Female Titan.

The two crossed paths in the West Hall when Wren approached Raul to ask for a photo. There was an instant connection, but they regrettably went their separate ways without exchanging contact information. Wren assumed she would see Raul later at the Attack on Titan fan meetup, but to her surprise, he never showed up. (As it turns out, he didn't even know there was a meetup!)

Later that afternoon, while Wren was taking a break outside, Raul spotted her sitting on a curb. He approached her and suggested it would be a waste if they didn’t spend the rest of the convention as a duo. They finally exchanged numbers and spent the evening talking, goofing off, and posing for photos with other attendees. A week later, they went on their first official date in Little Tokyo.

Wren and Raul still attend Anime Expo every year, crafting intricate costumes and cosplaying as iconic fictional duos. On July 3rd, 2025—exactly three years to the day they met—Raul proposed to Wren at Anime Expo, wearing the very same cosplays they wore the day they met.
